Quick Coupler
A device that allows rapid, cab-controlled switching of excavator attachments without leaving the operator seat.
Quick couplers (also called quick hitches or quick connects) are mounting systems that enable excavator operators to switch attachments in seconds rather than minutes. They eliminate the need for manual pin installation, dramatically improving productivity on multi-tool job sites.
Types of quick couplers:
- **Mechanical/Manual**: Pin release via manual lever (basic, lower cost)
- **Hydraulic**: Cab-controlled hydraulic pin engagement (standard for mid-large excavators)
- **Tilt-Rotator**: Full 360° rotation plus ±45° tilt (maximum versatility)
Safety standards: Quick couplers must meet ISO 13031 safety requirements:
- Front lock mechanism (prevents drop if rear pins fail)
- Safety springs (maintain lock if hydraulic pressure lost)
- Visual indicator (confirms locked status from cab)
- Connection test procedure (verify engagement before lifting)
